Abril Gurrola, Hacia Facilitator

Abril is a first-generation college graduate and former HACIA: Toward the University alum who now works as a Project Facilitator. She is a Davis New Mexico Scholar who graduated with a B.A in Spanish and a B.S in Environmental Science and Policy from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas.

Abril is originally from Durango, Mexico but was raised in Albuquerque, NM. She has worked with organizations like Juntos: Our Air, Our Water and with Breakthrough Santa Fe. As a South Valley Academy and HACIA alum, she was able to receive the necessary help and support to attend university. She wishes to connect students and their families to higher education the same way she was and working with HACIA makes this possible.

After graduating university, I wanted to reconnect with my community in Albuquerque and I found the opportunity with HACIA. I am excited to continue working with students and their families. The process to attend college can seem daunting and I am grateful for programs like HACIA that make the process not only easier, but more engaging for families.
