Hacia had over 40 high school seniors attend Hacia's Scholarship Night on August 24. Students learned about the UNM Combined BA/MD Degree Program and Daniels Fund, learned tips on writing successful scholarship essays, and received a scholarship packet. Special thanks to Tamara Clover and Cristina Benitez de Luna for speaking to our students.

We had a full house at Hacia's Success Plan Workshop with our School Readiness families where they created goals around grades, attendance, and extracurricular activities. We also discussed heroes and people who inspire us.
Anoche, tuvimos casa llena en nuestro taller de Plan de Éxito con las familias de Preparación Escolar donde crearon metas alrededor de calificaciones, asistencia y actividades extra-curriculares. También discutimos héroes y personas que nos inspiran.
Today we celebrated our internal Hacia students at Southwest Creations. Congratulations to Ashley C. who graduated from Albuquerque High and Taiz G. who graduated from South Valley Academy, both will be attending CNM this fall. We wish you the best of luck!

Hacia: Toward the University, our two-generation family engagement program, hosted a comprehensive two-day summer workshop for 40 students and their families to learn more about college admissions, financial aid and FAFSA.
Southwest Creations is proud to announce we are a Gold Level 2017 New Mexico Family Friendly Business Award recipient. The New Mexico Family Friendly Business Award was formed by the Task Force on Work Life Balance to develop an awards program that would both recognize New Mexico employers and businesses that offer family friendly employee benefits and promote increasing the number of businesses with family centered policies and workforce access to them. The purpose of the award is to recognize and support businesses that adopt and implement family friendly policies for their employees.

Our Hacia: Toward the University team just returned from a three day conference at CoolSpeak's ENGAGE: Youth Engagement Seminar, a training and professional development seminar that focuses on student engagement best practices and researched techniques.
At the conference, the Hacia team learned, experienced, and practiced some of the most effective strategies to cultivate motivation, improve emotional intelligence, and enhance critical thinking skills. They also learned new techniques to improve their facilitation skills and brainstormed different ways the HACIA team can improve our project to successfully engage more Albuquerque youth and their families.
